The final still is not a still at all—it wants to move. Sunlight through leaves. The cottage roof repaired. A vegetable garden where the grave used to be. Two women sit on the stoop. One in a red cloak, now faded to rose. The other with yellow eyes that have learned to smile.

By the time Red reaches the cottage, the door is already open. Inside, the fire is low. The figure in the bed wears Grandmother’s flannel nightdress. The ears are too pointed. The hands too clawed. The smile too wide. The wolf-woman sits on the edge of the bed

The voice is gravel and honey. Red does not flinch.
