In 1983, a small, long-defunct Canadian label called "Video Treasures" (not to be confused with the later U.S. distributor) struck a deal with a European print holder. They pressed a run of NTSC VHS tapes that were, miraculously, the full international cut.

The "official" cuts removed the lingering shots of the "purchase" auction. They trimmed the nude portraits. Most critically, they shortened the sequence where Brook Shields’ character dances for the photographer Bellocq—reducing it from a psychological study of voyeurism into a quick montage.
