Simon Kitty is charming and aloof, loved by many but committed to none. He meets Margot , a rescue-dog-personality human (loyal, enthusiastic, emotionally transparent). She adores him openly.

Alone, Simon Kitty looks into a vintage mirror. He tries to purr—a sound he associates with vulnerability. He realizes he’s been suppressing his own purr for years, mocking others who purr freely.

Her direct affection makes him uncomfortable. He accuses her of being “too much.” She asks, “Or are you just used to too little?”
